Natural Gas from Renewable Resources
Conversion of animal waste and solid waste to natural gas.
Anaerobic digestion of animal wastes and solid wastes is a proven technology for the production of biogas, a mixture of carbon dioxide and methane. Historically this biogas has been converted to electrical energy on the farm and sold to the local utility. The economics of this relationship has never been favorable to either the farmer or the utility and the process has not gained widespread acceptance.
An alternate to selling electricity is to refine the biogas to pipeline quality natural gas and distribute the gas either as compressed natural gas (CNG) or via pipelines. This approach captures the highest value of the energy produced and makes the energy available to the widest customer bad. 6Solutions has been significantly involved in utilizing this technology.
